    I'm getting a backfire on acceleration. I decided to adjust the rocker arms to see if that fixes it. I turned them 3/4 of a turn from zero lash. I still have the backfire. It may not be the rocker adjustment causing this, but I was wondering how far past zero lash you guys usually turn them.

    Backfire is 'usually' related to timing issues and/or vacuum leaks.

    Improper lash/pre-load causes noisy valves, rough idle, poor performance
    in general.

    For a hydraulic lifter, I like to set 0.010" pre-load which is around
    1/8" of a turn after zero lash.

    It gives the lifter more RPM and still has some pre-load to adjust
    for tolerance in the valve train.

        my car acted a fool like that and it was because of a faulty intake seal MAJOR VACUUM , not to mention OIL from hell leaking
