  • overrevved....put back together

I picked up a 95 TA with the LT1 that was overrevved (I think) and had a few bent push rods and some missing parts. After replaeing all the push rods and putting on a new water pump, balancer, distributer and a few others she was running great for about 1000 miles. One day she started rattling and clanking and I immediatley shut it down. I pulled the valve overs and found that several rockers were really loose. Could there be more damage to the lifter or cam with with the original bent push rods? I'm not much on the mechanic side, but if I sit down with a book, I can manage to take these things apart and put them back together again.

    Thanks for your advice!

If the motor ran OK for 1000 miles then acted up it sounds like collapsed lifters. These cars use Hydraulic rollers, and it is possible for them to collapse. You will have to pull the intake and check out the lifters. I found a new OEM set in Jegs or Summit for under 300.00. If a lifter has broken, it may have taken out the Camshaft.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll be tearing it down sometime this week and post my findings.

Actually, to check the lifters, you can simply pull off the valve covers and see if the pushrods can be pushed down toward the cam. Obviously, movement = new lifters needed lol

When I pulled off the valve covers there was obvious slop there. The rockers were realy loose and I could move several rods with ease.
