  • Shocks and Springs....

Guys, if I rent a spring compressor from Autozone how difficult will it be to do full shocks and springs myself?

I am installing the 2'' Intrax drop springs and a set of Bilstein shocks. I know the rear shocks are easy, I'm more concerned about the rear springs and front springs and shocks.

    Thanks as always.

the rears are easy. put the car up on stands while supporting the reaf diff .. lower the rear slowly and always supported and springs come right out. just make sure you put them in per instructions. The fronts are the kickers... them there springs need the compressor. Just be careful to take your time and do it right. Nothing worse than a spring springing on you ... could really ruin your day.

You can get the spring compressers at Harbor Freight for about $11. Made in China, but then what isn't these days. I got a set (along witha digital caliper for $15) and looks like decent enough quality - I haven't used it yet.

I have an online guide to changing springs and shocks. It covers the QA1/HAL adjustables and Eibach Pro-Kit springs - so just ignore the parts about modifying the spring seats.

I would strongly recommend a compressor like the Lisle McPherson strut compressor (part number is in the writeup). It uses U-bolts to keep the compressor on the coils, so there is no way they can slip off.

Here is a very good install guide that I used when I did mine. Its actually not as hard as I thought it would be. It was pretty fun too.
