  • NFB - Need some Ideas selling my junker/beater

ok, I tried selling my car in the local news paper only to end up getting involved with America's most wanted and the FBI in search with Jason Brown (top 10 fugitive that escaped to Canada) so selling the car via newspaper is out of the question.

I signed up to sell it on ebay, but with so many scams, I dunno

    here is a picture http://www.aiconnect.com/~brobey/driver_side.JPG (1.1mb)

what would be the best way for me to sell this car for $500. It is mechanically sound, just rough around the edges due to daily use for 27 years

Any ideas welcome (except the thelma & Louise scenario )

    $500?

As long as it runs solid and is as reliable as can be expected, it shouldn't be a problem. Here in Connecticut, we have an auto sales newspaper that comes out once a week called The Bargain News. It's free to list cars in the classified with no photo section.

I'm not sure if you have some type of publication near you that's like that other than the local newspaper. If so, definitely the route I would go. Ebay is almost not worth it for $500.

I usually place some "for sale" signs in the windows and continue driving it. Park it at a business with a lot of traffic if possible. Park it at a corner with a lot of traffic, make sure it is parked legally and the town doesn't have a law against doing that. Park it in a driveway on a busy street, if your house isn't on a busy street..... ask a friend. Park in a business lot that may be closed on the weekends....ask though.

A $500 car should sell quick, try the local Walmart parking lot while shopping, etc.

The cheap little local "flyer" papers are good too.

For $500 I'd just smash it around for a while, have some fun and drive it to a junkyard when you are done beating it up.

You could take it to a car show and charge people $2 to hit it with a sledge hammer. Then after that, put a brick on the gas pedal and let it redline in nuetral until it blows up.

            good ideas keep them coming

for the charity thing to work, you really have to have a lot of deductions, mainly a house with a mortgage. I'm single and rent an apt. I'll try to see about the free publications. hmm I figure ebay would take a sizeable chunck out of the sale.

A friend of mine just sold his old Chevy truck for $650. I gave him a call earlier and asked him how he went about it. He said he made a one page ad on his computer and printed a bunch, then posted them on the bulletin boards at places like Wal-Mart and some grocery stores.

He sold it inside of a week for just $50 less than his asking price.

Or he could hook up a 300 shot to it and get on it until it scatters!

We need a video if this car is going to be self destructed.
