I did a little expirement over the last couple weeks. I filled my tank with $20.00 worth of gas (93) and drove it normally like I always do and averaged 90 - 98 miles before refueling.

Next, I refilled my tank with the same amount and same gas. This time I would make sure I would always skip-shift from frist to fourth off the line and stayed under 2k rpm while shifting. By doing this I went from averaging 90 - 98 miles before refueling to 115 - 120 miles before refueling again. What a difference skip-shift and sixth gear can do!

Wow, I think I may wanna stay stock, ha ha. I'm gettin 210-230 miles per tank with the new gears, used to be 230-250 miles with the 2:73.

I regularly get about 250 miles on a tank - you sure there is not something wrong with yours?

This is just $20 in gas guys, not a full tank. I am guessing in your area Taso that gas is around $2.50 per gallon. So with $20 you are putting in 8 gallons and averaging 11-13 mpg. Not to bad with 3:73. Then when you went to skip shift it jumped to aroung 15 mpg. Not bad!!! A full 15 gallon tank would then take you the 220-230 others are talkin about.

                Not bad...what???

Something is definitely not right here. I'm getting no less than 17 mpg (typicall about 20 if it's all highway). My set-up, while not radical, consists of 4.10's and many bolt-on/air in/out improvements. I've dynoed at about 288 hp/309 ft/lbs to the wheels. Something sounds off with 10 mpg. Have you had the vehicle checked? You're probably overly rich. Just my thoughts...

Al is absolutely right. 11-13 MPG on average is unusually bad for an LT1....unless your foot is on the loud petal at all times. Something is not right. You are probably running pig rich. You could most likely kill two birds with one stone by getting a performance tune. Much, MUCH better MPG, and some extra HP to boot.

Well my car was tuned by the performance shop who did my M6 conversion. I had them test my fuel injectors about a year ago and they were fine. I also had my fuel pump replaced in October.

                              Tracy -

You drove the Z from Madison, WI all the way down to Key West? That must have been sweet!

Been to the Keys several times. I would love to take the Bird down there sometime, just cruising US-1 from Key Largo to Key West.

29 mpg is pretty darn good for any V8....
