  • Water up the driveway.

    Ugh. I need sleep.

I went to the park to snap some pictures of the car with the new hood installed and noticed the power steering was grabbing. I figured I'd change the fluid and see if that helped.

When I got home I noticed I left a trail of antifreeze all the way down the road. It turns out the belt had gotten wet and was slipping, causing the power steering to behave funny.

I just happen to have a spare water pump, so I began installation. I fugured I'd do a clean up on the front of the motor so I stripped off the water pump, opti, air pump, balancer, coil, etc... It all looks really nice now all cleaned up. I still have to reinstall the air pump and some hoses, but I started it very briefly and it runs fine.

The hood looks sweet. I'll post pics tomorrow. Go figure, the darn thing breaks down on her maiden voyage.

That sucks man. Good thing you caught it in time though. How did the Opti look? Can't wait to see pics of the new hood .

That's how it always is....take a step forward, take a couple back Good thing you had that extra water pump laying around...hopefully that opti didn't get too much of a bath.

Props on the new hood...can't wait to see some pics

As long as I was "in the neighborhood" I took the opti out and cleaned it up. Strictly cosmetic, I didnt have the proper tool to open it up. It didnt get too wet. I misted it with simple green and wiped it off. It looks like new on the outside now. I also cleaned up the timing cover and the front of the block. I have yet to reinstall the air pump and a couple hoses. Then fill it with fresh coolant and check for leaks. I coated both sides of the pump gaskets with a thin layer of Permatex. I also coated the threads on the 6 bolts holding it on the engine. It should be good, cross your fingers!

I did start it last night (very briefly because it had no coolant in it) after reistalling the clean opti and coil. It ran fine.
