Today I make personal history, 285 miles on one tank of gas. Atleast I hope because I left me phone at home, which is 12 miles from work and then one more mile to a gas station.

Me too. my gauge always says E but when I fill it up it only takes 13 gallons. Been on E for 2 days now and still going. I punched it around a corner this morning and it didn't sputter so I think I'm good.1999 Ram Air Trans Am. M6

This reminds me of that Seinfeld episode when Jerry went to buy a Volvo from Puddy, and Kramer and the salesman took a car out for a test drive and drove it until it was empty.SOLD: 2002 Trans Am WS.6 - Black on Black - 6 Speed

Are the fuel tanks on the fourth gens the same as a third gen. The first half of the tank goes a lot slower because of the shape of the tank. The top part holds almost twice as much.1999 Ram Air Trans Am. M6

Yes. In fact, it's that way on almost all GM cars for some reason. I've owned nothing but GM, and all of my cars have been that way. When the needle dips just under 1/2 tank, it sinks like a stone.SOLD: 2002 Trans Am WS.6 - Black on Black - 6 Speed

That sucks man because I adjusted my timing and did all of the other goodies to improve gas mileage. The I drove to El Paso texas and back (185 miles) and I still had half a tank. 80 miles later I'm on E. I was pretty excited there for awhile, I had grand visions of 320+ miles on a tank of gas.1999 Ram Air Trans Am. M6

What's even weirder, is that my '91 Bravada stays on the 1/2 tank mark for the longest period of time, then drops like crazy. It doesn't do that at any other point on the guage other than 1/2 tank. Strange.

While it's always nice to know what the fuel range is of your vehicle, you shouldn't do that on a regular basis. As we all know, almost all GM vehicles require 1/4 tank to keep the fuel pump submersed and cool. If you keep running it like that, you take a great risk at fuel pump failure. And as one of the guys who refuses to chop a big hole in my car, fuel pump replacement in an f-body SUCKS!!"No, officer, that bottle is my onboard Halon system"

Oh crap, didn't think about that tid bit of info. I had better quit messing around and get some gas. I've done the fuel pump thing twice already and like you said, no fun. Especially since I live in BFE NM and its fixing to be in the triple digits pretty soon.1999 Ram Air Trans Am. M6
