  • Edelbrock heads for LT1

Hey guys. Just wanted to ask about these new heads I found. I was flippin pages on my new summit mag and I saw that Edelbrock now makes heads for the LT1. My question is, are they any good? I also just got an AFR catalog and their heads are WAAAAAY more expensive. I know their quality is probably good, but I doubt that Edelbrock is poor quality either.

Im also not sure about the flow numbers, but rumor is (i said RUMOR) that the edelbrock heads will give you around 30 hp on a stock engine. I don't know how true this is though.

Thanks for any and all help guys.

The Edelbrock heads are fairly new. Threads I have seen indicating the flow capabilities indicate they simply aren't worth the money. You can push stock LT1 heads to 270-280cfm, and LT4 heads to 290-300cfm with good porting. There is really no reason to go to aftermarket heads, not even the AFR's, unless you are looking at well over 500HP NA on a stroker motor. "Out of the box", the AFR's still need work to match well ported LT4's..... A friend of mine tried them on a Vortech S/C 383, at the 700HP level, and he lost HP compared to his ported LT1's. He switched to Lingenfelter CNC LT4 heads and took it to 950HP. Then he switched to a totally customized set of Canfields and took it to 1,125HP...... 9.04 @ 155mph in a 3,900# 30th SS convertible.

Ask Edelbrock for the flow sheet on the heads.

Thanks for the reply man. I really am not in the financial situation to do any kind of work to my car right now anyways. I want to sell it in a few years and get somthing else also. There really is no need to mod my car then, right? I just wanted to get everybody's (or just yours, LOL) opinion on them.

Thanks again for the info. Much appreciated.
