could have been a 'burp". did you try clearing the light by pulling the pcm fuse, wait 4 min, plug it back in, then restart? codes will stay there, but go on down the road.

go to a dealer and ask them to look up what the code means in their books. maybe u have to replace a solenoid

Well I noticed on my way to the gym after my last post that my skip shift is not working so I am guessing that maybe I didn't hook up my skip shift after my last clutch install but as far as the maf I guess I will have to ask the dealer what that means.

Check to MAF, see how it looks. May need to be cleaned. Also, how is the car running? Rough idle or anything out of the ordinary?

The 97's have a peculiar problem with the pink wire that supplies +12V to the MAF sensor. Key on, engine off, pull the harness connector off the MAF sensor and check the pink wire for +12V. That would be a place to start. If you have power to the wire, tap the sensor with the handle of a screwdriver, and watch the output on a scanner. If the output varies when you hit the sensor, its faulty. Check the harness pins for damage or corrosion. Or, swap in a good MAF sensor from a friend's car.

P1657 means the "skip shift" harness is unplugged, or the solenoid is burned out. You must be the only person with an M6 that doesn't have a "skip shift eliminator".....

Be sure to check all underhood fuses. If one of those pops, you can lose a few sensors and throw codes.
