  • NFB -Cheated Serious trouble last night

Well it started off that I was leaving a buddies house last night around 9:30 PM. Im going up this street and yes ill admit it I was going around 60-75mph in a 45 as I appouch an intersection. Right as Im entering, I see a cop right in front going the opposite way, which was way to late to slow down. So right away I look in my rearview mirror and sure enough, that cop car is coming. I slow down and I happened to have my Butterfly knife in my pocket b/c I had finished showing my buddy. Well quickly I throw it in the glove box and cover it with all my junk. So I finally pull over and they tell me to get out of the car. The first thing they tell me was, " you know why we pulled u over right?" So they put me in the cop car and run my licence and ask me if i had anything illegal in the car. I say no and they continue with the questions. They told me i was going around 80mph but i know that my car is not that fast b/c i had only gone about a quarter mile til i crossed the intersection. So finally they get me out of the car and they ask me, " what do u have done to ur car?" I told them about the Coil-over, the headers, high-flow cat, intake and Short shifter. He askes me to pop the hood. I was guessing that he wanted to see so he could really make that ticket hurt. So he calls me back to the car, tells me to get my S%$# off the hood of the cop car, and to "SLOW THE HELL DOWN!" Talk about Lucky. That was at least 5 violations plus the knife, and i got to just drive off. I have to change my undies after that!!!

Remember, cops cannot search your car without consent. Speeding is not probable cause to search your car.

Correct. But it is pretty easy for them to make up a probable cause. If *anything* suspiscous is in plain view, or the smell an "odor"...

Your best bet is to never allow any contraban in your car. All you need is for a buddy to have some pot in his pocket when you get pulled over for a broken tail light. Your buddy stashes it under the seat. His breath stinks. Your car gets searched and he denies it is his. Now you are in trouble for it.

Why not just get a proper case for your knife and carry it in the trunk? It is illegal to carry an unregistered concealed weapon. A knife in the glove box would qualify as that because it is not in a case, and it is within arms reach of the driver. You are safe if it is boxed up in the trunk. If you have a weapon you need to treat it as such and store it properly, otherwise you could be asking for trouble from the law.

Whenever we go shooting at the pistol range we always keep our guns boxed up in the trunk for the trip. Anything else is asking for trouble. If you get pulled over, make sure you tell the officer immediately about the guns. Tell him they are properly stored in the trunk and unloaded. make sure he understands they are not a threat to him and it will not be a problem.

The best way to avoid it all is to not run around with weapons in your car!

One slight problem though. If memory serves me correctly, butterfly knives are illegal in CA...period. Doesn't matter if its stored safely or anything. If you're caught with one, you're busted.

This is exactly right. My Father, Uncle and I all go to a range to shoot our handguns. We keep them in the trunk in a lockbox, separate from the ammo. My Uncle was pulled over on his way to meet my Father and I at the range a couple years back. He put his hands on the wheel, told the cop he has a registered firearm in a locked box in the trunk, and the ammo in a separate box. The cop had him for going 70 in a 45. He let him go because he was so happy with his cooperation.

Thats True they are illegal no exception. I normally just have a pocket knife with the clip in my back pocket but since I toke it to show my friend, I had it in the car. I got lucky they didnt look in my glove box. They were just trying to scare me, which worked. They just looked under the seats and the trunk, and made fun of me for having my "Girlfriend's" Hello Kitty key chain. They must of saw her Hello Kitty make-up bag too. It was funny when they started asking me about that. As fare as the Drugs, I have never done any drugs, (just drink once in a while(very light)) and dont allow that crap in my car. No thank you.

No Prob. Keep the knife in the Hello Kitty makeup bag. As long as you don't go swishing around and makin a play for the officer, they aint going to think it is yours!
