  • SLP Intake Runners?

    OK, I have a bone stock 92 RS with a 305 TPI. A buddy of mine mentioned some SLP intake runners to me the other day and I was wondering if (#1) they would work on a TPI 305 and (#2) if they would work well. ??? Thanks!!!

    I had the on my 88 GTA with 350 and was please. Not a very hard install. I cleaned the up with a dremel, as well as my throttle body and plenum to open up the ports a little more and it really made a difference. I don't know if they fit the 305 though I would think they do. Anyone who sells them should list the applications for them. The 305/350 were pretty much identical and most parts fit both.

      The TPI FI setup was originally designed for the 305, not the 350. Puting it on a 350 was a last minute decision on the part of GM to make the Corvette fast enough to sell. Original intentions were to put the 305 TPI in the new C4 vette.

      The TPI as a result is actually a bit restrictive for a 350. But to my knowlege all the parts are interchangable from 305 to 350 TPI setups. There might be subtle differences like the injectors, but it is pretty much the same. There are also yearly differences. For awhile they used a 9th injector for cold start and some years were mass air while others were speed density.

      That is the extent of my TPI knowlege in a nutshell. I realize you didnt ask for it, but you might find it usefull. To finally answer your question... Yes aftermarket TPI runners will fit on your car. I suggest you research them before buying. Your money might be better spent on a different mod at this point in time. How much gain can you realistically expect to see from them on a 305? Do the math, see if it is worth it before you spend the $$.

        I also have a TPI engine on an 86 T/A and my advice would be start with other mods like a Cold air intake and headers, and a cat-back. Putting on the runners will give you more horsepower but if you complete those other mods first it will be much more effective. I was pondering the same thing for a while all the advice and everything i read said to go with other mods first. Hope this helps.

          they were gonna put a 305 tpi in the c4 vette......aw man. that woulda been somthing.

            I didn't take note that he said he was bone stock... in that case, yes, start with a cold-air intake, or make your own, and an exhaust. After that you can move to intake runners and other similar mods. For a lot more thirdgen knowledge than you'll find here, check out www.thirdgen.org Alot of experience there.

              The main restriction in the 350 tpi is the intake base not the runners. Once the intake base has been upgraded then next will be the plenum. After that then the runners. Im not sure how much of a gain you would get with a 305 as it works well as is, unless you have extensive mods.

                Thanks! But one more thought....

                I appreciate all the help and input. The SLP runners seem to be a easy install, but it would make more sense to do a few other things first. As far as exhaust mods, all I have done is an 80 series flowmaster muffler. But that brings up another question. I have had my eye on the SLP headers as well, but I hear they leak bad. Has anyonelse had or heard of them leaking? If so, any recommendations for another header supplier? THANKS!
