Got my car diagnosed, now I need quick opinions on replacement part...

Ok, my mis-fire was being caused by a faulty ignition module according to the dealer. It is going to be $450 CDN if I get them to order it. Does anyone know where I might get one cheaper? Or should I just let them order it? They can have it here tomorrow, if I let them order it within the next 3 hours. I don't know if I could get one here that fast, but I need the car fixed ASAP cause it is our only mode of transportation at the moment. Anyone have any ideas?

P.S. What is the ignition module? Is it lke the distributor on this car?

Thanks, Joe! I found a place here in town that can get one for me for $225.00 Man.....dealers will rip you off any chance they can get. If I knew how to put it in, I would just to keep from having to pay them to do that. Unreal..... Anyway, thanks for all the advice. Thanks to everyone else too who kept me from losing my mind worrying about my car. I wonder why the ignition module went out from hitting the rev limiter?? Must have been almost gone already when the fuel cut off, and that did it in the rest of the way? Who knows. I just hope I didn't kill my cat by driving it for the 2 or 3 miles I had to drive it home. I guess I will know once I get it back...

Your ignition system is very similar to what is used in my GN. The coil packs are mounted directly on top of the ignition module, the tow are sandwiched together. Doubtful that hitting the rev limiter caused this. The rev limiter cuts fuel, not spark..... I think it was a coincidence. If anything, the high rpms combined with heat was the likely culprit. On my GN, I make it a habit of replacing the ignition module every time I replace the coil packs.

I agree with Joe... The rev limiter shouldn't have harmed it. The module is easy to replace. You can do it yourself..

Yea, anybody with a ratchet and socket should be able to change the module on that car. Just unbolt the two bolts on each coil pack and pull them off of the module. They have two prongs that just plug into the module. Then remove the bolts that hold the module to the backing plate. Bolt it back together and your done.......then you WONT have to pay the stealer to do it!
