  • Found glass in my tire, need help!

Do you guys know any way of telling whether or not you will get a flat tire if you remove glass from the tire? I must have ran over a piece (about a half inch long) and it's in one of the treads in the middle of my tire. I am not sure how deep it is in the tire, but it split the tread. By that I mean that the treads not one piece anymore, there is a rip in it make it like 2. Anyways, I'm not sure if I should just pull out the glass, or keep it in and take the car tomorrow to a tire place. If you could let me know, that would be great!

    Thanks,
    Jeff

chances are, the glass did not penetrate the steel belt package. it usually does not. put it out. now..here's the important thing, make sure you use some rubber sealant, the kind to put on bicylce tire when applying a patch an d stuff, to fill that split. its most likely all the way to the belt package. if you dont, moisture will start to migrate in there then penetrate the belt package and begin to rust....eventually, you loose the tire due to belt seperation.

      trust me.

pull it out, hit it wit a soapy water solution to make sure it aint leaking air. then put some bead sealer or something like that on there. also if it did go thru, it its inbetween the frist and last tread u are fine, if outside those, thats tech the sidewall and from what my boss has me do at work, u throw it out and get a new one

take it to a tire shop and have them repair or replace, why risk having the tread let loose while driving.
