i thought the stock tire on the 94 forumula and ta was a 245/50r16?? was on my 94 ta gt.....

according to my U.S. Tire and Rim book, the dont make the 245/55r16 here...

the design rim width for the 225/60r16 is 6.5". the design rim width for the 245/50r16 and 55 is 7.5". so if you have a forumla, and it came with 245/50r16's..you are fine.........

The wheels in his pictures look like the stock 16x8" 3-spoke 93/94 Formula/TA wheels. They came with either 235/55-16 or 245/50-16 tires, depending on whether the car was ordered with the Z-rated tire option (RPO QTC). QTC should have been standard on the TA GT.

Only the V6 cars came with a 225/60-16. Somebody got cheap when they replaced the tires.....

My door jamb says the stock size is 235/55-16's. Another ? if I decided to keep the 225/60-16's in the front for now, what sizes could could I use to widen the rears but keep the sidewall heights the same?

It just seems like such a shame to have a narrow tire like a 225 on the front of a Formula....

The 225/60-16 is 26.6" diameter. The only real choice you would have for the back would be a 255/50-16, which is 26.1" diameter. There is nothing larger in a 16" tire..... at least not in a "performance" tire. You might be able to find a BFG Radial TA in a 265/50-16. That's a 26.4" tire. It's not something you would classify as a "high performance" tire.

You really should go to Tire Rack and look at what they sell in 245/50-16. Think in terms of buying a full set of tires.

If your car came with 235's the speedo is off a bit with the 225's (reads 2% slower than actual speed, or about 1mph error at 60mph). With the 245's the error would be similar, but in the opposite direction... the speedo would read 61mph at a true 60mph.... not worth worrying about.

Or to match what was on your car a 235/55-16, with no speedo error.

Tire Rack shows 38 tires in 245/50-16, with some as low as $58 (Kumho ECSTA 711). I personally wouldn't pick those as a first choice, but I'd much rather have a 245 on my Formula than a 225.

If you put the proper size tire on it, you'll also be pleasantly suprised at the difference in how the car responds and drives. I'm sure Ken would be able to tell you way more about that than I ever would. I can only speak from past experience.

I had a '78 Z/28 I bought used, and the previous owner had wider but lower profile tires on the car by one size both ways. I replaced them with the factory size all around and it was like driving a completely different car.

I have so many options I dont know what to do, all 4 of the tires have over 90%
tred left. The problem is the 2 fronts are generic, and the pass. rear has a pin hole in the sidewall, I also kinda want 5spoke firebird/camaro wheels but have no where to store my current wheels if I get new ones. If I had room I'd keep the 3 good tires for my intrigue cause they are the same size. Just dont want to waste'em.

Get Kumho 255-50-16's, and sell those tires on your car now. (They are designed for an 8 in. rim is what you have.) IMMEDIATELY! Your speedo will be closer to being correct than with the 245-50-16's.
