  • V8 swap?

So it looks like my old 3.4l might be going out. Not for sure yet, but the motor is making a really loud ticking noise. I'm gonna take the valve covers off on sunday and see what is going on but it sounds like its a bent pushrod or something along those lines.

The real question I have is my friend has a slightly built 350 v8 from his 72 chevelle. He said he would sell it to me for about $1500 straight up. It has a small problem but it can be fixed relatiley easy he says. I know its not a LS1 or an LT1, but I dont know what motor it is. With this information, do you guys know how hard and how much money/parts I would need to do this kind of a swap? Im asking becuase I'm not sure if it would be like the traditional LT1/LS1 swap.

    Thanks in advance.

Might want to mention what year/model car you are trying to put it in, what tranny you have, etc.

A bent pushrod is hardly a reason for a motor swap...

Search some past threads and you'll see the questions about V6 ---> V8 swaps have all been asked and answered... and the consensus is that it just is not worth it. Way too many supporting parts need to be changed, and you'd be far better off just buying a V8 car to begin with.

also, the 350 from a 72 Chevelle is a Gen1SBC. The Gen1SBC does not easily fit into a 4th generation (93 or newer) F-body due to clearance issues with the distributor, carburator, windshield cowl and hood.
