Hey guys, anyone here play softball? What bat(s) do you use? I'm in the market for a new bat. I used to use a Demarini Doublewall distance that just cracked. I'm in 2 leagues, a USSSA one...where I'm tempted to get the Miken Freak+ 100+ mph bat...but that's banned in my ASA co-ed league....with just about any other composite or doublewall. So has anyone tried the Freak+? Is it really worth $250-$300?

Softball is a bit different...all 34 inch, ranging from 26 oz at the lightest, to maybe 32-34 oz at the heaviest. Most people use 28 oz. The composite and doublewall bats are illegal in coed play because the ball comes off too "hot". That is total garbage because they're already using mush "Gold dot" balls. Also, in all ASA play, any ball that comes off a bat at over 98 mph is deemed illegal.
The USSSA has slightly different standards. I believe the only illegal bat in the USSSA is the "Miken Ultra II" which is the holy grail of all softball bats.94 Black T/A GT, Advanced Induction 355, 3200 stall, built 4L60E, Moser 9", Baer Brakes, Shooting for 11s...

Sweet, so how far can you hit with the Freak 98? I'm debating between that and the Freak Plus...the plus supposedly has a bit more pop, but the 98 is legal in ASA play, and as you said, quite amazing. Hmmmm....94 Black T/A GT, Advanced Induction 355, 3200 stall, built 4L60E, Moser 9", Baer Brakes, Shooting for 11s...

That's awesome. I'm just a base hitter, but I'm looking for more "pop" in my bat. Plus, the league I'd be using it for is only an upper E, so there's a homerun equalizer rule. The C league I played in is ASA, so the Freak 98 is the max I can go.
The grass is so thick at the parks we play, that it's impossible to get one through, unless you hit a perfect line shot. The Demarini I used had good power, but I wanted something slightly better. So it looks like the Freak is coming home soonThanks for your help.

Wow, 4 HRs, gotta love itI'm not sure what SPN is...I haven't had any tournament play...just local city leagues. Our team is pretty young, so we pretty much suck lol. It'll probably be at least a couple years until we can think about leagues, other than local ones. Is that tournament/travel play? Do you play in those?

spn is a huge tournament type thing you have other qualifier tourneys and yo have to win or place in to get a spot in the spn tourny at the end of the year
it usually has about a total of 500 or soo teams in it it is really competitive but is it a good time the spn provincial tourney is in septemebr in niagra falls cananda great spot to play too

Wow, sounds like fun. The closest thing we have to SPN is at Twin Creeks, which usually hosts amazing softball on the West Coast.
Your team is really young! Our team average isn't even close to that. Although my friend and I run this team (We're both 24), we have several over 50, a couple over 60, and most well over 35.94 Black T/A GT, Advanced Induction 355, 3200 stall, built 4L60E, Moser 9", Baer Brakes, Shooting for 11s...

Haha, yea, oldtimers is a good termBut you're right, it's all for fun. However, when you watch them strike out swinging, it's not so fun
But as far as our young guys, our current power hitters hit it around 320 with wind, so hopefully the Freak will help them crank it further, in the parks with deep fences94 Black T/A GT, Advanced Induction 355, 3200 stall, built 4L60E, Moser 9", Baer Brakes, Shooting for 11s...
