  • Any Optispark experts here?

I finally got my Optispark and Water Pump off. Upon inspection of the Optispark unit I found one of the nylon/plastic rings that go on the shaft broken into pieces. The second ring is cracked but has yet to fall off.

My qustion is: How do I replace these? With the same material or rubber O-rings? Are they dealer items only? What did you guys do IF you had the same problem?

Lastly, Is it possible to have the Optispark unit on out of (timing) position or does the dowel in the came prevent this? (ie; can the Opti go on any other way but the correct way)?

    Thanks guys!!

Never seen one break before. That is likely a dealer item, but checking around couldn't hurt. I hope you are going to replace the oil seals for both the opti and the water pump while you have everything off.... if not you'll be doing it twice when the leaks start a little down the road. The dowel pin keeps the opti from being indexed incorrectly. As long as you put it into the proper keyway, that is...

Ok you got me there.... which seals? I did buy a new (or reman) water pump; thus, alleviating the possibility of the Water Pump showering my Optispark. As far as the Optispark seal I'm lost. Can you alloborate on them please. I'd greatly appreciate it.

      Thanks!

The front cover has oil control seals. One for the crankshaft, one for the water pump drive shaft and one for the optispark. (those are the open holes in your front cover once you removed the water pump and the optispark.)

The optispark shaft o-rings are commonly cracked or disintegrated.

Thanks everyone for the replys. I appreciate your time. This is why I frequent this board more than any others. You guys are always willing to help out the guy with questions like myself rather than not responding to ?'s at all like other message boards.

            Thanks again!

                Yah

I just did this about a month ago. The new opti that I bought from the parts house came with rubber O-rings on it, not those hard plastic ones that the stock one had.

The Optiseal and the water pump driveshaft seal come out pretty easily, do a search on the board for instructions how to get them out. I have a few pics if you are interested on how I got mine out.
