  • NFB-cracked tile, anyone have a clue?

I had my kitchen redone about a year ago.... I have a tile floor in there and I noticed today that in one of the tiles that is a heavy traffic area there is a crack in one of the tiles. The crack is very thing and is about an inch to an inch and a half in length. It starts at the very begining of the tile and goes out about an inch. I don't know if I should just leave it or if I should replace the whole tile? The crack really is not noticeable unless you're looking for it because the tile I have has a pattern in it... Does anyone here have any experience with this? I really don't mind the crack (can live with that), but I am not sure if this will spread out further? What do you all suggest?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Take a hammer and a chisel and start in the center of the tile working towards the edges. Break away the grout as it needs to be replaced as well.

But before you do all that find out what tile it is and what color grout. If you can't find the tile email me a pic of it. I've been doing this for 12 years. Family business

ok, DJ, what happens if I just leave it? Will it spread? Is this a major thing to do? I've never taken on this task... how long does it take to get it out and replace it with a new one? How long would it take for the crack to expand if that happens usually?

      Thanks,
      Jeff

It all depends on your foundation. Does you floor have underlayment below the tile? Is the crack in a heavy traffic area? How long have you been noticing this?

Like I said, make sure you find out the name of the tile before you start taking it out. You don't want to have a missing tile in your floor only to find out that certain tile has been discontinued.
