  • NFB: Storing Tires

    Hello

I recently moved into an apartment with a heated storage area and I would like to put my winter tires and rims in there. It has a concrete floor so I was planning on putting plywood down and setting the tires on that.

Now my question is probably for the wolfman himself but why is it bad to store tires on there sides and stack them up. It would be alot easier to stack them up then to make some sort of rack and stand them up on there tread. They have plastic bags over them atm.

I feel stupid for asking but I dont know what will happen if I store them on there sides. Thanks

if they are on the rim and properly inflated, storing them on thier sides is of. off the rim, sometimes the casing components on the "bottom side" deflect and take on a slightly undeseriable shape which can cause an out-of-round condition when they get remounted.

I wrap mine in large black plastic trash bags and stack them on their sides. You can get some good storage tips at tirerack.
