My question is about cold air induction kits like the one that slp sells for the LS1 engines. What if anything stops rain and other liquids from harming your engine? It seems to me that this mod would cause severe problems for any f-body that ran through bad weather. I would appreciate any help on this question if anybody has knowledge on the subject. Thanks!

It is almost impossible to suck in enough water through a cai to flood our engines. The way they're designed is to prevent something like that happening.
I as well as many others on this board have cai's and have yet to experience that problem, and I've driven through many rains before as well.

Yes, rest easy. You would need to be in flood water up past the wheel hub for it to be an issue. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with a CAI and water.Originally posted by smokin2001FormulaI appreciate your input on the subject and will now rest easier about possibly purchasing the item.Tracy

It doesn't take as much water as you might think to hydro-lock a motor and break a rod, BUT on the other hand it is not likely that you will ever "suck" that much water into the motor by just driving through heavy rain. Just don't ever allow the inlet of the CAI to become submerged.
