  • Had to sell my Trans Am on my birthday........

ok first of all i would like to say that i have been to lots of forums and this is by far one of the best ones. its not just why were all here or what we all have in common, its the quality of the people. here everybody is always congratulating and giving advice even to the newbies such as myself. so i wanted to thank you all for making this forum great. now on to my story...............

we owned a 2002 ws6 trans am. it was pewter, t-tops, 6-speed manual, the whole 9 yards. and i say we because it was my dad who bought it a few months ago. i am only 16 and theres no way i could by a car from only my earnings. ya i no ur prolly thinking "ya hes too young the car wasnt his in the first place, he didnt pay for it" and in a way you are kind of right but i did really love that thing. ive known how to drive for a while and in about two months when i get my license it woulda been officially mine. unfortunately life as you all know is hard and there is a time where things need to be done for the better. he had put the trans am for sale a few days before i found out. he didnt truly know how to tell me because he knew i loved it. but ironically it sold on my birthday which was a few days ago. weird huh? ud think on a day like this id be getting it not parting with it. but thats how life is and hopefully one day i can get one like it or one even better. so im not mad because i know that he had no choice.

but im not going to lie. i am disappointed. i loved that thing so much. it was one of those times where you were so sure something was in your grasp and it slips away between your fingers. ever few nights i would steal the keys and just sit in it for hours listening to the radio. id never think of taking it out tho. it was too loud lol. id wake the whole neighborhood up. all in all it wasnt mine to begin with but i loved that car like nothing else.

this however is in no way a farewell because i may not have the car but i still have the love for them. so thanks for being a great bunch and introducing me to these cars, and listening to my experience.

One loses his wheel on his birthday, and another one gains one on his birthday... coincidence?

Anyways, sorry to hear that man... When I turned 16 and I first got my liscence, I just couldnt wait to take my grandparents 91 Caddilac Coupe DeVille... I just bought my TA, and I'm sure if you want one bad enough, that you will make the proper accomidations in due time.

    Dont give up hope!

        Happy Birthday anyway...

Guess it's hard being a parent and not dissappointing your kids. My 8 y/o told me today that he thinks my car is cool, and that when he gets old enough to drive, he wants it. Insurance won't be fun, but...

AND, my 6 y/o literally cried when I got rid of my '99 Firebird a few weeks ago for my '02 SS! I had to tell him that this car is "red bird"-a friend of "black Fire"bird".

Sorry to hear about your dissappointment. You are having a great attitude about it. I can see how you'd love such an awesome car, but hopefully it got a good home.

...maybe you'll get one like it or even better..."Do you have a year and specific "dream" car in mind? F-body of course, right?

        Take care!

ya thats what made me feel a little bit better about it being sold. i think i went to a really good home. i live in california and some guy is comin out all the way from idaho to get it and ship it back. i never got to meet him but the people were selling the car through say hes a great guy. so its good to know that some one would go though all that for it.

as for my deam car............i really dont know. i was perfectly happy with the trans am. it was love at first sight. i never really wanted more. but since you asked.......................my dream car woulda have to be a murcielago . ya i no its a bit unrealistic but hey.....................if i work hard enough and stay in school i guess its possible

Just think, when the '07s or '08 come back... you'll be about the right age..... I'm a pretty firm believer that things happen for reasons we can't always comprehend.... There's probably a reason why you weren't supposed to have that car. Patience is hard for most adults, and I know that when you're 16 it's basically xistant.... but in time you'llhave another one.

Chin up, bro. I used to feel the same way about my dad's F-body. That was back in 1988 and the car at that time was a 1987 Iroc. She was silver and beautiful. Cupid hit me with his arrow and I was in love with the f-body. I'd sit in it and dream while listening to the radio, just like you did.

My current car is now number 6. LOL It will never end. If you really have the passion, you will find a way to have one soon enough. Patience.

Don't worry. You're a great person with all your priorities in the right order. Keep the same focus, stay in school, get into a great college, and before you know it, you might even have to pass up the f-body forum for the ferrari club. Keep your spirits up and you'll do great things.....

Wow, sorry to hear that. Reminds me of when I got this car. I was originally looking at an LT1 Firehawk (red). It was repoed and going for really cheap (think it was like 8 or 9k) and only had like 65k miles on it. I was so sure that I was going to get it, I was ecstatic. Then my parents told me to call the insurance company to see how much it would be. $375 a month... I couldn't afford it (still couldn't now either ). I was devastated. A lil while later I found my camaro for $7k with 58k miles. Insurance is $234 a month with a tiny $93 a month car payment. I work at a grocery store and sometimes (when they don't give me hours) can barely afford this, lol. Just look around for another, you'll find one eventually, even if its slower, it's better than nothing.

You have a good head on your shoulders. My Father was always a Camaro guy. He bought a '69 Z/28 new, sold it for a '78 Z/28 in late '77. I loved both cars and wouldn't give up until I had an F-body of my own someday. Of course, someday took me a bit longer than I liked (I'm 31 ), but I'm happier with what I have because I waited so long.

You'll get your T/A or Camaro and it's going to be the nicest car you've ever owned. Good luck and glad to hear you're sticking around.

Happy belated birthday and welcome to the forum...
It's rough turning 16, having your hopes up high, and seeing them get shot down like that....but....you're young and have many years ahead of you.

When I was 16, I too wanted an f-body more than anything I could think of. Instead, I drove a '96 ford escort wagon I beat the living h*ll outta that thing....I hated it. All I did was save that $$$ and hope for that day when an F-bod would come in to my life. Suddenly, 2 years later, literally out of no where, I realized that it was time for a car being that I could fully afford one (insurance, gas, car payments, etc...) About 3 weeks later, I was driving my t/a home. I'm now 19, going on 20, driving an f-bod that runs good, has a lot of maintenance/restoration things done, has a decent amount of mods, and is something that I can totally afford on my check. I'll be done paying it off by the time school starts this fall, and all seems to be good for now

My point is life will lead you down many roads. If the 16 year old me saw the me now and what I was driving, I would be absolutely shocked. If you really want one, you will get it. Everything does happen for a reason, just think of it like that always. For some reason, you weren't meant to drive that t/a; but, that doesn't mean another one won't be in your life soon. Keep the faith, you'll be driving one soon enough.

                        Good luck bro!

ya i know what you guys are saying, about working hard and one day ill have my own. the only thing that discourages me is the decreasing availability of these cars. ever since my dad sold it ive been looking around at ones on sale (dont ask why). and its amazing at how many less there are now that when we bought our old one. it could be just coincidence, or my luck, or just my brain telling me this when its really not. but im afraid by the time i can get one itll be too hard or it just wont be what im looking for.

Don't sweat it. For every person looking for a car this specific, there's another one out there who needs to sell one. Believe me... I worried about the same thing. It took me a while to find the exact car I wanted. Earlier this year, I found that car. So will you.

Anyway... You're already ahead of the game. You are part of the best forum on the net. With all the great people here, you'll have no problem finding one.
