  • Things to look out for?...

Well, as I count my clock (13hrs) until I pick up my Tranny... Is there any small/big details of things I should be looking out for? I know the LT1's leak from the transmission, and with having said that... the gentleman I'm buying the car from has just recently fixed that problem.

    So, is there anything else?

    Thanks, in advance...

I havent herd of a leaking transmission but I haven't realy looked into that on f-bodys.

My advice for you is dont overlook stuff and say wow its a muscle car I had a bad vibration and thought my car was bad-ass it turned out to be a random missfire and alot of money to find and fix.

Find out when the spark plugs, wires and optispark (distributer) was last replace and I guess the o2 sensors. Just a heads up changing plugs and wires are hours of hard work and yes I said hours 3-5 isn't uncommon with a good mechanic doing it. Also check what make are they for plugs they should be NGK or ACDelco.

Look at the tires and you can tell how the car was driven, these cars eat tires too. If the engine is clean ask how he cleaned it, the previous owner of mine shampoo'ed the engine bay and I think was the cause of my problems.

Ask him what type of oil and gas he uses and if they were used by the previous owner. These cars are FUN so with that means they probably have been abused more in some way over a normal car. I consider myself a non agresive driver but even I peel away from a stop or whip around a cornner tires screaming every so often :P

You paid alot for your car so make shure you dont get suprised by costly repair bills that take the money from mods. Oh and ask about the water pump and see when that was changed too if that leaks it can take out the optispark. If you know someone with another 4th gen car ask them to look at it and get a mechanic to throw it up on a scanner/test drive it. When you get your car change your fluids to, you can't go wrong with doing that.

All excellent points above from the self-proclaimed, Crazy Canuck.

Another thing I would definitely look into is when the car was driven. Make sure it was NEVER winter driven. I live in New England, and I realize your winters are a bit worse up there, but they get pretty nasty here as well. When I was looking for a T/A, you would be shocked at how many cars I saw that had salt deposits caked underneath the car. A lot of people just wait out the snow, then drive when the road is plowed. That's the worst time. One guy even bragged to me about how great the car is in the winter despite being a RWD V8.

Got her today... and its amazing!

The guy put new tires on, he had all the service records, he never winter drove it, the car is in great running shape. Thanks, Canadian formula ... great tips! I will be keeping up with the maitanence of the car as much as possible, and then some.

However, today... being my first time actualy getting to "drive" the car... I was a little rough on it to say the least, but I gotta know my boundary's and limit's right?

The car purs with the 3 1/2' magnaflow on the back!
