  • 4.10 or 3.73 gears for autocross & road racing?

I am going to install gears on my '97 this winter. I use it mostly for autocross and road racing now. Its daily driving days are done so I am having fun with it. Anyhow, it is an M6. So far it has the SLP subframe connectors, strut tower brace, and the regular SLP Level I suspension along with the SLP rear sway bar. The motor is stock right now, but I plan to install a mild cam and maybe a blower this winter. Anyhow, I won't be doing the 1/4 much, but I will run the whole autocross season next summer, and I want to install a lower gear for better throttle response. Anyhow, I would like 4.10s, but how are they with the 6 speed. Where should I plan to shift out of 1st and 2nd at 6,000 RPM. Oh, where is the RPM at in the final 6th gear at 75mph

4.10's will totally wake her up!!.......they are the best mod I have done to date.....at 75mph on the interstate, they turn just a hair under 2000, so still good mileage.......around town, you can drop into single digits if you play a lot

In addition to driving The Chicken 100 miles every day......

I road race & autocross it.

I have the 3.23 gears now (still the gears from when it was an A4) with the M6.

I have a set of 4.10s that are going in.

The 4.10s are great for autocross .... you'll need some tires, now.

I'm thinking they may be just a bit much for the road racing, but ..... I'm willing to accept that for the increase in street performance & autocross .... as well as the occasional dragstrip run.

Thanks Gordon. Hey I would like some advice on how to set up my suspension when the time comes to get serious.

Anyhow, on the gear front. I just called the differential builder I used for my Blazer just out of curiosity. He did an excellent job on the beast so maybe he will do this. He does mostly big trucks so I didn't know what he thought of my 10 Bolt. Anyhow, he apparently does a lot of them, and he keeps a good supply of Strange gears and install parts. Well, he is going to do my gears, 4.10s, including parts and labor for $525. I am excited, and I plan to set the appointment next week.
