  • FLP longtube headers

    Has anyone used these headers and are they any good.

    I know they provide decent gains, but they have horrible characteristics as far as being able to get to your plugs and accessing parts of your motor for maintenance.

    Might wanna look at Hooker or JetHot LTs, about the same price and MUCH better motor access. I have the Hooker LTs, their not as good as my old MAC headers as far as access go, but the gains are worth the small sacrifice.

      The FLP's offer the advantage of being a "complete" package... emissions connections, Y-pipe, dual high flow cats PLUS off-road pipes. Full coatings on everything. Downside is high cost, and only a 2.5" Y-pipe. For the Hookers, you need to have any required emissions connections added, get them coated, find a Y-pipe (often a major fitment problem due to sloppy assembly by Hooker). I think the Jet Hots are a copy of the Hookers, but with options for the emissions connections. I think Jet Hot might be making a Y-pipe by now. And with the Jet Hots you are limited to their own coating, which is not always as good as it is supposed to be.

      Not sure about the plug issues, so go with KnightFire's input. I have a set of Hookers sitting in the garage. I had the O2 sensors added, and an EGT bung, but still need to get them coated. Maybe over the winter they will find their way into my car.....

        OK.... I'll give my two cents.....

        As you may (or may not) have noticed, I am producing long tube headers & y-pipes, complete with all emissions and Cats or no Cats..... for the LS1 cars.

        I am now in the prototyping stages of building the same type of systems for the LT1 cars. No corners will be cut.

        Here's some of the design parameters:

        * 1.75" Primaries
        * Full 3" collectors
        * All emissions hook-ups (or race type too)
        * Full 3" y-pipe with or without cats
        * Bolt-in installation
        * Good ground clearance
        * Good chassis clearance
        * Easy (well.... that's relative..) installation
        * 100% ceramic coated
        * ALL parts required for install ... included

        Here's a pic of the LS1 system... the y-pipe shown is a 2.5" prototype that is not in production. See the post from a couple of days ago (PPC Header Install), for a full undercar shot on the production parts.

        If you can wait a few months.... I think you'll be happy with the PPC LT1 units.

            Excellent point about the Y-Pipes Fred! I had totally left those out of the equation. I often forget everyones car isn't set up like mine. I had my Y-Pipe custom made...

            It looks like PPC has a really nice product and well thought out...If they had been selling LT1 kits at the time of my re-build, I would have definately went with them.
