  • Diff or Rear end?

I have a chance to get- either a rear end from pick a part, locker w/3:42's (500 w/shipping)
    OR
A SLP Zexel with 3:42's. About 100 miles on it. (about 438 dollars 4 both)

    Whaddya think?
They have the master install kits on sale for 69 in the sponsor thread.
My mechanic does both installs, but the swap woul;d cost me less.

do the swap cuz i could do it urself, i was gonna rebuilt my rear end but i found it was gonna take only 3 hrs compared to 8 to swap the whole thing, plus theres less of a chance of the bearing preload being to much or loose

What's a locker rear end? "Locker" is short for Detroit locker which is a ratcheting type differential used by race cars like oval stock cars.

What is the make and year of the axle assembly you are looking at? Is it stock? Does it have ASR like we talked about earlier?

It's a 2000 FB rear with ABS. He put a LSD in it and 3:42's. It was origionally a series 2 with the 2:somethings in it. So now it's a series 3. Salvage in Ohio.

Does it have ASR? What kind of LSD (differential) does it have in it?

It does not have ASR, my car does not have it. The differential has yellow springs in it.

Cool. I just wanted to make sure it would work for ya.

I have no idea what that means except that it is not a Torsen.

I did some digging and I think it's an eaton. Here is what he said

"on the auburn or eaton i am not sure, they are yellow locking springs. here is the fluid you need to use. it is a SAE 75W-90. you MUST ADD limited slip axle lubricant additive (about 4 ounces) or you will eat up yopur gears. "
