  • Future Camaro?

I may be way behind the times and forgive me if this is a stupid question but GM has announced they will be producing Camaro's again in the future to combat the new Stangs? I read it in my new book Trans Am/Firebird. However i guess GM said the Firebirds "day is over". Anyone got anymore info?

Right now it looks like the only thing that might survive at GM is a couple of trucks, the Corvette and a few Cadillacs.

The last I saw, the platform they were considering for the new Camaro was killed and replacement shelved.

It's mostly about GM and what they're going through right now, but if you read one of Scott's last posts I believe, he says there is a V8 RWD coupe coming out

I haven't seen any info on a future Firebird. On the Camaro front we should hear some more info soon. That said, hints have been dropped about a future Chevy V8 RWD performance coupe for the 07-08 model year.

Oh...here's a recent quote from a GM person. "Zeta isn't dead....it was a name only"

07-08 V8 coupe? Could be the "SS" I read about way back when on a grocery store magazine stand. Thats the name they gave the concept, just "SS". It sure didn't resemble a Camaro or Bird. Looked more like a Vette 8 years from now to me. I dont care for any more new additions to the GM line-up, the last good one was the avalanche. The SSR was cool to think about but hardly practical to buy. Then you have the GTO and the Charger and all these old-school cars the big-three dropped way back- coming back. If it was up to me, I never would have let the F-bodies go. I know they had trouble deciding on a new design but come on! Oh and as far as old-school goes, has anyone besides me read/heard about CHevy bringing the Belair back? Read about it in R/T.

            1992 RS 25TH Anniversary (with Heritage package) A4 305 TBI (L03), Mobile 1 Synthetic, Flowmaster 80 Series Cat-Back, 17"x 8" Cragar style rims(painted grey)/Hankook Ventus 245/45Z17....350 Coming One Day......

The part that most people forget is that the Camaro platform and trim was always designed first, the Pontiac trim style was brought up to speed soon after the Chevrolet unveil. Insiders referred to this as the "Pontiac body trim option" and typically debuted at the last minute. I'm telling you guys, if and when the line returns, don't expect the Pontiac style trim to arrive until the last minute.

I thought i read in motor trend that they were actually gonna use the reardrive platform in australia, and have a few carry over vehicles from there. Like the morano is the GTO. Cant remember exactly which ones but the looked pretty darn good. I think they said one might be called camaro. I can't remember exactly what they said and i don't have the magazine (readin at the store ) Looked pretty promising though.

What GM would most likely do, is release the Camaro and see what the sales are like. If the Camaro sells like the Mustang has been, you can bet the Firebird won't be far behind. It's all about the all-mighty dollar.

A late April fools day joke! Still, the picture is said to be close to what was planned at one time. Who knows right now. Things have been shifting around. Current belief is that Camaro would ride on a modified Sigma chassis (Sigma-lite) and not the redone Australian V-car chassis, which is where Zeta came from.

Well last week i was reading some of my friends hot rod mags and it said that the camaro and like 7 other gm cars (2 cadillacs and some otheres)were pulled from possible production. I guess that it has a lot to do with them dropping like 25000 jobs and shutting down some plants. i will have to go look and see which issue it was. i will get back to you with the info.

I hate to say it, but I think the magazine is a day late and dollar short. That's based on statements that Zeta was dead. GM later did an about face and said that Zeta isn't quite dead. Merely delayed to free up funds to get the GMT900 trucks out earlier.
