whatd u launch at redbird? i can launch my car at 2200rpms with very lil tire spin on street tires. id practice on the street a lil at different rpms till u find one where tire spin is next to nill, then once u get to the track add bout 500 to it just be safe and that u dont stall.

That statement right there tells me you're losing a lot of time on your launch, no offense. With an auto, there is still a launch technique. You don't just floor it and go, or you'll light 'em up, as you know. You've got to find the optimum rpm where you can launch and feather the throttle a little, without having it upshift to 2nd, getting just a little wheel slip until you can safely stab the throttle to the floor. That statement also tells me you need to invest in some suspension upgrades. LCA's, torque arm, subframe connectors, etc...

i didnt mean it like that, i have technique, i usually rev the car up until the torque converter locks and right before the wheels start turning, when the lights go down i hammer it at the green. spin through first, spin halfway through second and chirp third. that should be a good half second off my time with stickier tires and suspension mods

That's what I'm getting at. With street tires, you can't just hammer it at the green, especially if you've torqued the car up at the line.... you'll never get traction. You need to feather the throttle, meaning back off a little until you're grabbing some traction, then lean into the throttle a little more and more until you're eventually at the floor. I think I read somewhere that optimum acceleration happens at something like 18% wheelspin. Meaning you should be getting a good squeal or grabbing sound (depending on track surface) from your tires, but not all out spinning. If you find you can't control the wheelspin even with this technique, back off on the brake torqueing a little, launching at a lower rpm until you can control the wheelspin. And definately do some suspension work to get more of that power to the ground. Stickier tires will not be a cure-all for your situation, and you still won't be able to go out and just hammer it at the green light. Make some trips to the tyrack, or find an empty, safe spot to go work on your launching technique. Remember, a good, loud squeal, but not spinning.

i know what you mean, to tell you the truth i think i would be better almost no torqueing and jsut hammer it, it will drfinatly grab better that way. and then i will try what you said
