  • 305 TBI Aircleaner upgrade.

My brother wants to put a different aircleaner on his 92 RS 305 TBI auto Camaro. We plan on doing this, chopping the cat and a 3.42 rear gear. It also has an Edelbrock cat back and hypertech chip. It has 115000 miles, what do you think his 1/4 mile time will be approximately. Also will this This aircleaner off eBay work for it? Thanks, Ryan

1/4 miles time should be somewhere in the mid to low 15s. That air cleaner on Ebay should work just fine. But, if you don't want to have to wait for it and deal with shipping, any auto parts store will have chrome air cleaners that cost about $20 to $30. Any regular 14"X3" open element air cleaner will fit.

Installing an open element is pretty easy on the 305 TBI cars. That was pretty much the first mod I did to my car. There are plenty of write-ups on installing them, too, if your interested. Here's some links:

One word of advice, if your brother wants the most bang-for-the-buck, buy a non-drop (also referred to as a flat base) 14"X3" open element air cleaner. That way you can remove the gold spacer ring that surrounds the TBI unit, and you won't have to deal with ignition coil clearance, like you do with drop base air cleaners (3rd link I posted is a good example of what can happen). the only problem with the non-drops are that they sit up higher and might rub the hood insulation, mine doesn't though. Most Mr. Gasket air cleaners at auto parts stores are non-drop.

If you have any questions, feel free to post or PM me.
