  • NFB: Any good FREE graphic creation programs out there

something like MS's Paint, but a little more powerful with more tools. Or if anyone knows, is there a way to make the background transparent on Paint. For instance, if my graphic is simply some words, is there a way to make it so that if I place that image (the words) on a web page, the background of that webpage will show up behind the words, rather than Paints' solid colors backgrounds?

Anyone know if this can be done, or if there are some good programs out there?

"PhotoImpression 2000" works pretty good for adding different layers. You can make each layer as transparent as you want. I think PhotoImpression comes with most "Windows" programs these days.

What are you looking to do? I can whip something up in Photoshop for you if you need.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm just looking to whip some things up on the fly as I put a website together... no specific ideas yet. I was trying to make a graphic, just a phrase, and wanted the site's background to be seen through the graphic but it wasn't working.

I use Photoshop for all my web development and photo manipulation...

          HOWEVER....

Per your request... this is the "free" graphics handler... it is the closest thing to Photoshop I've ever seen and is used by many educational institutions who cannot afford Photoshop. It is used in schools, etc... and is a very worthwhile tool for a graphics editor.

          INTRO... "GIMP"...
