  • New rear end trouble...

Hey, I put in a new rearend with 3:42's. We did it at a shop. Had two good mechanics helping me. Did everything right, everything is tightened as it should be and I have a really bad thump from the right side. Going over bumps. Alsmost sounds like an exaust rattle, but we didnt even mess with it. Anyone have this problem? It was a straight swap out, 99 rear with 3:08's to a 00' LDS w/ 3:42's. Axle has 26,000 miles on it. Sounds like someone is hitting the right rear underside with a mallet.

put it back up in the air on the lift and inspect it......use a jack stand and raise the rear from the center and see whats hitting...

Could be a mount. Did you use all new mounts? Did you be sure to bolt the torque arm down? Is your exhaust hitting off that plate? There is a plate... Look under the p/s. Mine was bouncing up and down on it after my header install. I just took it off. It goes right where the catback starts, right under it. Or in that area, I can't remember. I had the same problem.

Also watch the I pipe going over the axel - might be hitting there with the new rear end.

Try looking under it yourself as she sits? Maybe the problem is that obvious, maybe you will be able to determine the cause of bump just by taking a quick peek.
But untill you can look and fix the issue watch the big bumps

I did have a problem with the R R caliper setup. The outer pad was set wrong. Got that fixed, but the rattle still is there. I even checked the spare to make sure it was not loose. A mystery............
