  • Aftermarket engine managment systems

Im thinking about moving to an aftermarket EFI system to gain the benifits of SFI and coil over plug ignition on my 89 Formula. I have been looking at the Accel/DFI gen 7 system. With the optional Dual sync Distributer which gives an optical trigered Cam and Crank signals, I can run a coil over plug system like the LS1. My question is, is ther a better system for roughly the same money? Has anyone used this system? Recomendations?

The shop that did my setup is authorized installer/tuner for FAST, Accel/DGI, MoTeC, Haltech and Electromotive. Their first choice it the MoTeC, but its a high $$$ setup - everything you want to do (like access to programming, data logging, closed loop control, etc.) is an "extra cost" option. The system will interface easilly with the dual synch distributors, or even the Optispark optical sensor from the LT1. MoTeC has an 8-channel ignition driver ("optional extra") that will allow the use of 8 coils in direct fire mode. I have the full boat.. and it seems to be a very solid system.

Next choice for the shop is the Accel/DFI Gen 7. The visual interface seems to be much improved from Gen 6.

FAST is not standing still... they have a new XFI system that they claim is extremley easy to manage. I have not seen or heard anything about the system, other than what FAST has published. I guess I could check with the shop to see what their take on it is:

The Haltech seems to be a low-end system with limited capabilities, but an excellent buy for an entry level system. The Electromotive is a mixed bag.... and I had some really bad experiences with their customer service.

There is another newcomer to the high perf ECU market, and that is called something like "Big Stuff"... I need to find out more about it. Seems to be very popular with high end power adder users.
