  • Fuel pressure question...

I hadn't driven the bird for a couple of weeks, got it out today and it just dosen't feel right. I started watching my fuel pressure guage and it seems more eratic than I remember it, readings from 25 to 50 seemingly at random. Car wants to die at stops sometimes (not always) but seems to run well under boost!?! Fuel pressure always climbs to ~60 when the blower builds boost... so... can anybody think of anything besides the factory fuel pressure regulator that could cause this? Also, for those running a fuel pressure guage, what ranges do you normally see when driving? Off the throttle and on?

P.S. Scanning also shows my fuel corrections going nutz! Seems to have somewhat stabilized at around 109 for the lower throttle mappings.

Thanks in advance for any ideas / info,

How does the Powerdyne supercharger work for you? I wanted to go with this, but I have heard criticism from installers who use the Vortechs/Prochargers regarding build quality. Anyhow, I like the concept of the Powerdyne for what I want, and I will be doing the install myself.

Do you use an FMU? It sounds like the regulator or this is causing you problems. I think the 6psi kit also has an in-line pump in addition to the pump in the tank. How do you have this setup? If the tank unit is going out, then you will also have these problems.

I really like the Powerdyne unit, no problems so far and the install was a breeze. I had installed an ATI previously which was a bit more involved, but really it was just a lot more pieces. My ATI was the older P600B that used engine oil and a tap into the oil pan for return...that part I never really liked. If you are not looking for incredi-power but rather just enough to be able to spank LS1's then the Powerdyne seems to be a good choice.

Build quality is very good on my PD. I had problems with my ATI. The belt tensioner on the ATI broke on me and the compressor itself was very noisy, seemed "loose" and was generally a POS in my opinion...this was bought in '98 though and I think ATI has gotten their act together quite a bit since then. The newer ATI "self contained" units are probably a good bet to make more power then the PD, just a bit more expensive.

I am running a FMU and will be tearing into it today... along with the inline fuel pump, I'll find something, somewhere I was really hoping someone knew which fuse to replace to fix it.
