  • How does this cam setup sound??? Suggestions please!

I have been debating on a cam for a while. I am really leaning toward the GM847, instead of the one I was looking at from Combo motorsports.

    TN-236XL 236/242 .555"/.576", 112lsa

    GM 847 234/242 .575/.595 112

Pretty similar cams, but the #'s still don't make much sense to me... Which one will I have to rev higher with? Which one seems like a better cam? That's what it's between now. I don't want to rev over 6500 on my stock bottom end. I can't afford to stroke it. I would really prefer to not even rev that high. I'd like to stay around 6200-6300, but going to 6500 at the track once in a while wouldn't hurt me.

I don't care about gas mileage.

The reason I bring up the 847 is I hear a lot of people running it on stock bottom end cars and stock headed cars making 350 HP with 1.6 RR's. I'm not sure if that's the case with the one from Combo.

I have Comp cam 978 springs, valve locks, etc... I will be porting the heads and getting a 3 angle valve job.

How would those cam's work with the springs I have?

I hope FastTA see's this, but if anybody else can help, I'd appreciate it. Fred??

I just put down 490 for a SPEC stage 3, so I need to do this before I get out of spending money on the car mode. Thanks

If you do not want to rev your car that high these cams look too big. I am much more familiar with LS1 cams but the duration on those 2 cams is huge. I would question how "streetable" they will be particularly on a 112 Lsa. Lt1s could be totally different though. Wait until one of the "experts" on here weighs in!
