  • stearing wheel vibration

    Hello,

My stearing wheel vibrates on my 95 Z28 whenever I reach 65 MPH, and it gets worst when I increase speed. I just had a front allignment done and got four new tires and had them balanced. Ive heard people talk about the driveshaft being the cause of this could this be the problem? The car only has 29,000 miles, the wheel bearings are fine and the shocks are fine. If any one can give me some ideas on how I could fix this It would help alot.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Couple of thoughts..... the driveshaft balance would affect the entire chassis, it would mostly be felt from the rear. Your rearview mirror would likely be shaking and vibrating.
There have been several instances where I've purchased new tires that were out of round. I've also had tires balanced that ended up being out of balance because the machine was out of calibration. Just because it was done, doesn't mean it was done right. Did the vibration exist before you purchased/ balanced the tires?

I would try to rotate the tires just to see if the vibration goes away or is transferred to the rear. I doubt that a driveshaft imbalence is going to make the steering wheel shudder, but I guess anything is possible, even if it is highly remote.

The car has only 29k miles. It's probably your tires..

I agree with DJ Taso - most likely, it's a front tire or maybe a front wheel. It only takes one ugly pothole in the road to tweek one of your front wheels and cause the vibration.

take the wheels off if u can and look for "flat spots" in the rim. or if u can go to a tire shop and have them spin it on their machine see if they spin true or have a lil hop to em. i had a set of bent wheels on my old ford taurus. it was used for snows tires only but once u hit 75mph, they dash was jumping

I had it bad with Pirelli tires, two sets in fact. Changed brand and all vibes are gone. I had them balanced many times and nothing helped. It also seemesto come and go a little bit. Sounds like tires.
