      being that old, I doubt the gas tank was grounded. but who knows for sure.

        Yeah I saw that on the news but it didnt say what cuased it, at least the guy was ok but the car was toast.

            i thought on myth busters they said that if u pull the nozzle out, its more likley to speard the fire then if they left it in there and killed the pump? i could be wron tho

              The owner most likely killed the pump before coming out to fight the fire. But even if not, as long as he wasn't using the hold open feature, as soon as he let go of the nozzle, the fuel flow would have stopped so it wouldn't be spraying gas all over the place when you ripped it out. From the video it looks like it starts from directly underneath the car.... like the gas tank itself went, or had a leak, or there was some gas on the ground that te hot undercarriage ignited. Hard to say.
