alrite so i was driving home from my girlfriends house and i decided to floor it at a 40 roll i have done this before since the trans swap and it shifted perfectly. it got to about 75 and hit the revlimiter and wouldnt shift so i let off, it did it 3 times to see what would happen. so then i go up the road a bit and my car wont shift at all. from a stop it would shift like 1-2 and there was almost no 3 or 4 gears. so i pull over to check the fluid and under my hood is intensly hot and my manifolds are glowing. i check my temp guage and i am a bit over 210 which is preddy high for my car. so i decide maybe my trans and car need to cool down. so i wait like 10 min and drive home in whcih feels like 2nd gear the whole way home. i got home and popped the hood to let it cool down. maybe the trans fluid got too hot and broke down? i cleared out the cat liek 2 months ago and it has ran fine since? i dont know please help

Are you getting any codes? Did you ever get 3rd and 4th back? Its very common to lose 3rd and 4th on a 4L60E due to burnt clutches. But it seems weird that it would be shifting perfect one day and then the next lose them completely. Usually 3 and 4 will slip for a while.
It could be an electrical problem such a bad shift solenoid or EPC....or it could be a valve body problem.96 WS6 Formula: Ram Air, 383 Stroker, Ported LT4 Heads and Manifold, 1.6 Crane Rollers, 58MM T.B., AS&M Headers, Borla Exhaust, Meziere Elec. My A4 used to do that, it was a sign that my trans was failing. I know because I had it rebuilt 3 times in 3 years. Found out the bastards were using generic parts and my clutches kept burning out due to my 3:73. But it was my fault for going back to them 3 times.
There are 2 things to considier:
1. Warranty
2. Trans coolerHercules

If your motor got that hot, then it is likely that the stacked plate core was very hot as well. This can cause very sporatic behavior within the valvebody, front pump, and servos.
So it sounds like you have two problems to solve, engine overheating and trans problems. Any codes? Are you running lean?

hey guys, i jsut replaced the trans with a mad dog racing trans like 300 miles ago. kevlar bands and clutches, hardened sunshell, 2300 stall, corvete servo, it never slipped until yesterday
no no service engine light. although i have a had a low coolant light on for about a year and a half. except i filled the radiator all the way up and filled the resvoir also.
i have a 1 year warranty but it cost me 375 to take the old trans out and put the new one in. also the trans place is in florida, so they will pay half of the shipping.
i have a trans cooler it is just not installed yet.1994 firebird formula

guys a made a really good guess last nite and i was thinking that there is no way my trans was goign already so i let my car sit al ngiht and jsut started it checked the fluid it was fine. now i took it on a ride after i let it warm up. and it shfited fine. although i did not hop on it really to see if it shifted before rev limiter. is it possible my fluid got too hot and broke down? do i need a fluid change? was the fluid the shop put it crappy? do i really need to install my trans cooler? what should i do?
but if this were the case why were my manifolds glowing? i was only a bit past 210 which is hot for my car i am usually 180 range. could this be that there is a clog somewhere? maybe coolant hoses? air filter? pieces from the cat clogging my exhaust? i know it is about due for an oil change.
please help guys1994 firebird formula

there is nothing in my cat, i cleared it out about 2 months ago cuz it was rattling. i have a slit trans leak from my trans line. i scooped some up to smell it and it smelt like burnt popcorn. i comparted it to brand new fluid and it definatly smelt burnt. i cant drop the pan to check out the valvebody cause there goes my warranty.1994 firebird formula

It is unfortunately common for transmission shops to NOT clean the transmission cooling hardlines. They can become blocked and obviously cause some cooling issues with the transmission.
It may be beneficial to unbolt the hard lines from both the radiator and transmission and then using an air hose, blow all of the fluid through the lines.
