that is aweful. I know that people are sick of the G-8 only worrying about their self-interests (how to make more $ and get even richer etc) but killing people who have no ties to the G-8 conference makes no sense

LONDON -- Half a dozen explosions rocked the London subway and tore open a packed double-decker bus during the morning rush hour Thursday. The blasts killed at least two people and injured scores in what a shaken Prime Minister Tony Blair said was a series of "barbaric" terrorist attacks.

Blair said it was clear the attacks were designed to coincide with the opening of the G-8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland. The prime minister said the meeting of world leaders would continue but that he would return to London.

"Whatever they do, it is our determination that they will never succeed in destroying what we hold dear in this country and in other civilized nations throughout the world," Blair said a day after London was awarded the 2012 Olympics.

Bloodied and bandaged witnesses reported panicked crowds fleeing the blast sites. A witness at the bus explosion said the entire top deck of the bus was destroyed.

Sir Ian Blair, London's police chief, said he was concerned the explosions were a coordinated attack but said he wouldn't speculate on who was responsible. He said officials had found indications of explosives at one of the sites.

A senior Israeli official said Scotland Yard told Israel minutes before the explosions that it had received warnings of possible terror attacks.

One witness, Darren Hall, said some passengers emerging from an evacuated subway station had soot and blood on their faces. He told BBC TV that he was evacuated along with others near the major King's Cross station and only afterward heard a blast.

Police confirmed an explosion destroyed a double-decker bus at Russell Square in central London. Dow Jones Newswires reported that police said there were explosions on two other buses.

"I was on the bus in front and heard an incredible bang, I turned round and half the double decker bus was in the air," Belinda Seabrook told Press Association, the British news agency.

She said the bus was packed with people. "It was a massive explosion and there were papers and half a bus flying through the air," she said.

Police said incidents were reported at the Aldgate station near the Liverpool Street railway terminal, Edgware Road and King's Cross in north London, Old Street in the financial district and Russell Square in central London, near the British Museum.

Bradley Anderson, a subway passenger, told Sky News that "there was some kind of explosion or something" as his train reached the Edgware Road station in northeast London.

"Everything went black and we collided into some kind of oncoming train," Anderson said.

Simon Corvett, 26, who was on an eastbound train from Edgware Road station, said: "All of sudden there was this massive huge bang."

"It was absolutely deafening and all the windows shattered," he said. "There were just loads of people screaming and the carriages filled with smoke.

"You could see the carriage opposite was completely gutted," he said. "There were some people in real trouble."

London's cell phone network was working after the explosions but was overloaded and spotty, limiting communication.

The explosions sent stocks plummeting in Europe, with several of the major indexes down 3 percent.

I woke up about an hour ago and saw everything that was on the news. This is absolutely horrible....another act of terrorism by a group of cowards. As of now, they keep saying on the news that this is Al Quada affiliated, pretty much what everyone first thought. Anyone who purposely targets innocent civilians deserves to be brought to justice in the most harsh way possible. It disgusts me that these people out there are trying to send a message by murdering innocent people...there is absolutely no reason for what they do.

My heart goes out to London and the victims of the explosions...may God watch over all of you in your time of need.

I assume Jacques Chirac will need his foot surgically removed from his mouth now. He just made comments about England last week to Putin and Schroeder regarding British food and mad cow disease. I took these quotes right from CNN.com... "The only thing they (the English) have ever done for European agriculture is mad cow"..... "You can't trust people who cook as badly as that"... and finally "After Finland, it's the country with the worst food."

He then told Putin and Schroeder how former NATO Secretary General George Robertson, a Scot, had made him try an unappetizing Scottish dish.

"That's where our problems with NATO come from," he said.

What a complete (_!_) He is everything wrong with how Europe views everyone else. I wonder how he would feel if, God forbid, these bombings took place in downtown Paris? The three of them - Chirac, Putin, and Schroeder should be strapped to the next patriot missle we launch.

I could understand targeting an government building to get your message across. I never would agree with it, nor do I think it is right by any means...I could just understand their motive then.

What disgusting excuse for a human being wakes up and decides to target innocent men, women, and children who have nothing to do with your situation. I can't even call these people animals....it would be an insult to the animals of the world. These people are emotionless things that need to be dealt with.

I'll bet that after today's tragedy in London, that it will be referred to as London's 911. The Spain bombing on 3/11/04 is always referred to like this: "The 311 Spain bombing is Spain's 911".

Probably, people will refer to today's event like this: "London's 7-7 tragedy is London's 911".

One thing about it though, Bush's and Blair's poll numbers are about to go up again, after both being down for several months. Its a shame that it usually takes a tragedy to bring up poll numbers.

These people are cowardly vermin that need to be exterminated. There are no words to describe it; there is no way to relate to these people or the culture that produces them.

I just hope that we don't fall short in this war. So many of us in this nation and our "true" allies are losing their resolve. I just don't see how so many nations in the world don't view this as a problem. The world's leaders and citizens really should come down on these people (countries that support them) like a ton of bricks. If it is not dealt with this time (in absolutes), then Lord have of mercy on us all.

This war will be fought for a very long time. We are fighting an ideology not an army. It's very hard to fight an enemy that does not wear a uniform. Is not one particular color or race. Nor is afraid to die. It is a shame to see this happen today in London. I don't think Britain has seen a bombing like this since the IRA nonsense of the 80's.

They are going to be burning pissed off! It's that kind of thinking that makes the entire political process a moot point. Evidently they will never get it until there is nobody on their side alive to even think about coming to the wrong conclusion. It's unfortunate that the species cannot get along with each other. As much as I view a peaceful process as the only way to come to any true agreement, there comes a time that you are forced to deal with people that do not want peace. As a matter of fact, if the rest of the world's population were to disappear, these morons would still fight between themselves. Fighting and destruction is all these people are taught from the time they are born and recruited to die. I am now of the opinion that the entire process simply needs to be sped up.
