Has anyone seen this movie yet? I saw it last night and would have to say it was pretty cool. I've seen the original about 3 times, the new one has almost the same scene when the alien scope enters the house. Everything else though is awesome, makes you wonder if it could really happen. Tom Cruise also follows a religion that beleives aliens brought us to earth, weird.

I saw it...I don't want to say too much though in case I spoil it for anyone...although most probably know the basic story. The effects were amazing as expected in a high budget movie. I think there could have been a few improvments in this version of the story, though. I enjoyed it though...very intense at times. Needless to say, it generally seems like people either liked it or didn't.

I saw about 1/2 hour of it. Then there was a conflict and I left the theater. I liked what I saw and look forward to buying it on DVD.

The movie started out really really good and then slowly went downhill. The ending is super cheesy. The action and effects are good and kept you on the edge of your seat. Many parts of the invasion are borderline disturbing to take in.
The movie could have been so much better.
The plot barely follows the original 50's movie, however the best parts from the original are missing here like the scientists trying to figure out what the hell is happening as well as the military responses. Believit or not there really isnt much military response in the new one.
The sound effects are super creepy.
Its still worth catching in the theatre.

A big part of me wonders how many of the youngin's out there even realize this was a radio program 40 years before the "original" movie, and a book another 20 years before that (late 1800's) by Orsen Wells. The radio program caused panic in the streets and many deaths when it aired. Same thing happened in other countries when it was aired there, even recently.

I just watched a show on Turner classic movies that interviewed George Lucas, Steven Speilberg and Ridley Scott and they say it was similar to the original book in that the alien crafts walked on three legs instead of floated like the movie. Also the aliens where 'teraforming' earth for their own enviroment.

It was ok. I just wished they showed more military stuff and the rest of the world fight them, not just the U.S.
