  • Finally doing an Engine swap, questions tho?

Ok people, I'm getting an engine swap tomorrow, changing my 305 for a 350 from a 87 Iroc. I just have some questions on the engine, I don't know much about engines, so i'll just post what the guy said. I went down to the place to look at the engine, it was pretty much what I expected from a 87 350 for $650cnd. So you guys think I should do this, he said it has 95KM's on it, but it could just be rolled back!. Here is what the guy told me about the 350.

    comp: 155/160
    o.p: 45
    vacum:16

( Whats that stuff mean? And is it all good? )
I know a little bit about a little bit about cars, just not that kind of stuff.

Thanks for your time, I'll keep you guys posted on how she runs with a new engine in her.

compression is how much the cylinders are puttin out in PSI in this case 155-160psi

O.P is oil pressure, 45 pounds at what tho? cold or warmed up? colder the oil the less pressure it tends to have as it the pump pumps it

Vac is how much vacuum the engine is making. the amount its sucking in. 16 lbs is bought normal i think. i forget if its 15 or 18 u need to run power brakes

thanks for your help 88 bird, so does that look like a decent engine to you? Like the compression is 155-160 psi, is that good?

Compression of 155-160 is OK, oil pressure of 45 is decent, I'm not liking a vacuum reading of 16". Possibly there was a slight vacuum leak when they measured it? Normally you want around 18" for a stock engine. It could be a little low due to engine wear, a hotter cam may have been installed, there could be any number of things.

          how many miles on it?

from what i remember freshman year on a LG-4 motor that was a shop mule for us freshmen to learn the compression test that 305 cranked out about 140psi. ill check one of my manuals i got laying around to see if that is right for compression
