Looking at that instruction:
-Are the 95-97 models that much different than the 93-94's that you have to remove the power steering pump to get the plug wires off the Opti?
-When it says "remove the crankshaft balancer", it means remove the 3 bolts that hold the damper/pulley to the hub, and separate the pulley from the hub. No need to remove the hub. The picture is correct... the text is misleading.
-be sure to label the two vacuum hoses so you get them back on the correct locations.
-The procedure seems to ignore the differences between the drive mechanism for the 93-94 unvented units and the 95-97 vented type. The pictures and the description of the splined shaft, and marking it are specific to the 93-94 models. 95-97 has a dowel pin in the cam nose that drives the Opti. There are 3 clover-leaf pattern holes in the back of the Opti, and the dowel pin (in theory) only fits in one of the holes. Put it in the wrong hole, and you will have to do the job over again. Everyone insists they did it correctly, but maybe 20% of the people realize too late that they managed to put the round peg in the wrong hole
. The "View A" detail shows the 95-97 Opti. But the written instructions and photo cover the 93-94.
I'd take the time to look for an online writeup, specific to the VENTED 95-97 Opti. I'm sure there are some out there. Check Shoebox's Tech Pages, the "how to" directories at Project TransAM and on Brent Frankers pages.
You will need new gaskets for the water pump.Fred
