  • NFB QUESTION QUICK!!

    ok i have a friend that is putting heads on a ZZ4 chevy 355. i say put nothing on the head bolts cause of inacurat torque. he says that you need to seal the center ones so water dosnt leak into the head. whats the rigfht answer?

      To get accurate torque values, friction must be held to a minimum. Lubricating the threads aids this. Bolts that go into water jackets should also have thread sealant on them. To me, it has always seemed like a bit of an oxymoron to lubricate the threads and then also try to seal them.

      The now more used torque-to-yield specifications keep inaccurate torque readings from being a factor in getting proper clamping forces. They rely on a predictable amount of bolt stretch.

        sorry Ken i know better! Any way a zz4 is crait motor from chevy. anyway stupid mistake wont happen again.

          they all show have thread sealant on them. i beleive its it like my old 305 they pretty much all run into the water jackets.

            thought it was a crate motor, just making sure....
