Explain to me in detail, and with pictures if possible how you swap out the 180 thermostate for the 160 thermostate?

    1) open the drain petcock valve at the bottom passenger side of the radiator to drain the radiator. remove the radiator cap. make sure the engine is cold.

    2) remove the MAF sensor & intake elbow.

    3) remove the 2 bolts holding on the thermostat housing. Use a rag to catch any coolant that my leak out so it does not get on the distributor.

    4) swap thermostats. Make sure you install the new one in the same direction (top to bottom) as the old.

    5) reassemble

    6) close petcock valve on radiator and fill with fluid

    7) start engine and watch the fluid drop. Fill as needed with the 2 bleeder screws open until it tops off and the bleeders start leaking. close the bleeders and replace the cap.

    8) allow it to fully warm up. check for leaks. Open the bleeders one last time to make sure no more air is trapped in the system.

**note: make sure you stuff rags around the bleeders to absorb any coolant that comes out. You wouldnt want it soaking the distributor!

Thanks. The pictures helped. I'm going to replace my 180 for a 160 this month.

If your car is already programmed to switch the fan on earlier and you have a stock thermostat, will it do anything negative by changing to the lower temp stat?

No. It should stay even cooler.
