  • I need your opinions

    I've been thinking over the past couple of weeks that I have almost enough money to buy a 4th gen if I sell my TA. I really like mine and it does have some sentimental attachment but a 4th gen would probably be more reliable and whatnot.

    My problem is that I can use the money I have saved to try and buy a 4th gen or I can use the money to really fix up my current car. I haven't called around for prices and I don't have any of the tools for the mods except for the simple ones.

    Here's my fix up list
    1)auto->t56 conversion
    2)SFC's
    3)front end work (ball joints, struts, springs, tie rods)
    4)Paint (eventually)

    Would I be better off buying an LT1 car that already has a stronger engine, better brakes, an m6 and better handling than my TA or spend the money to bring mine up to that level?

    I'd say go with the 4th gen, provided you'll have enough money to buy one in decent condition. You don't want to get one that has the same problems your current car has. I've owned both 3rd and 4th gens, and while it's nice to see a quality 3rd gen out on the streets since they're so rare, but it's a night and day difference between 3rd and 4th gens quality and power-wise. I'd say go with a nice 4th gen. It doesn't have to be brand new, but a low mile one that was well taken care of is all you need.

      I was looking at this one. I'm new to LT1's, is there anything that I should look out for (aside from the optispark) and are there any specific problems with the '93's?

        No specific problems that I am aware of, but here is a thread worth looking through. It describes the differences between 93 and later years.

            INSURANCE! thats whats keepin me from gettin a 4th gen. id say stick wit the 3rd gen and just make it a nice cruiser outta of it. throw in a stout 350, 6spd, 3.73 or even 4.10s wit the 6spd. lower it bout an inch. throw a good coat of paint on it and enjoy it.
