  • Near Disaster.....guys be careful!!!!!

When working under the hood on the nitrous system, either myself or a friend of mine must have unknowingly broke the retaining clip that holds the fuel lines in place, which as you can imagine is bad news. Anyway, after that the clip somehow found it's way over near the manifold where I believe the AIR tube is and rested there.

Suffice to say after a couple days of driving the tubes melted through ( one partly, one all the way) I smelled gas travelling to my dads house and decided to pop the hood and see what was going on. There the gas was, dripping right out!!!!!!! Dripping onto the manifold and the valve cover!!!! Thank goodness it was somewhat melted there so the gas was not actually flowing everywhere, it was just dripping very slowly.

So, it was late and I had no way to replace these lines so we ended up using a couple of brass fittings and clamps to repair the lines temporarily. It got me home no prob.

I know most of you guys are very knowledgable and careful with your cars, this just serves as a reminder that something very simple is what goes bad sometimes.

So, there is no real point to the thread than to say, let's all be safe!

I had the same thing happen to me, not sure where the clip when, but it's not there anymore. I started to leave for work one morning and I started it and was gettin ready to leave and I could smell fuel, pop the hood and there was fuel sprayin EVERYWHERE. ran over and shut it off. Mine melted on the pipe coming up off the manifolds. So now I too have a brass fitting holding it all together untill I upgrade the whole fuel system.

Really could of sucked cause I usually jump in and go.

The brass fittings scare the hell out of me considering the pressure going through the line!

I actually wrapped the end of the fittings with electric tape to make the fit even tighter but I am afraid that the tape will eventually corode away due to the gas.....scary.

But the prices for dropping the tank and replacing the line are even scarier right now!!

I believe it's just one line all the way to the tank if I'm not mistaken.

no, the plastic lines stop somewhere below the driver seat. it's hard line from the tank to filter and from filter to middle of the car. then it goes plastic.

            Thanks.

It's fixable then. I called some auto part stores and there are no plastic lines available. Should I use a steel braided line or something like that? If I do how do they connect up to the motor?
