  • Low production F-Body's

Let me start by bringing up the F-1 optioned Camaro. I had parked next to this one I see around town and finally bumped into the lady that owns it. I asked what the deal was with all the F-1 emblems and she explained that it was a performance option she and her husband ordered on the car in 1994. She said that F-1's came with LT4's, suspension upgrades, and a few other goodies. It was just so cool because you see SS's and Trans Am's all the time but when's the last time you saw a F-1? OK my question is, and I should have asked her, but was the production of the F-1's done by GM, SLP, or some other company? Anybody know?

Now I have to bring up the crazy stuff I have seen surfing around the net. I was looking at some third gen sites the other day and some member galleries when I noticed this guy had his car titled as a 1988 "IROC Optioned Formula" He didn't have a pic of the car or engine specs so I am kinda left thinkning...BS!

Then there is that 1984 Z28E (E for euro) that had all the 5 Litre badges on it and was located somewhere in Germany.

    1992 RS 25TH Anniversary (with Heritage package) A4 305 TBI (L03), Mobile 1 Synthetic, Flowmaster 80 Series Cat-Back, 17"x 8" Cragar style rims(painted grey)/Hankook Ventus 245/45Z17....350 Coming One Day......

I think the F1 was a GM upgraded vehicle.
    It came with:
Cold air induction (dual tube and filter)
    ground effects
    custm floor mats
    dual stripes
    hurst shifter
    spoiler
I think they were silver only. maybe not

They didnt sell well and were not much better than a standard Z28.

They were very rare and preceeded the SS.

She is full of crap. It was an option on Camaros, but was a trim package consisting of visual elements like badges, ground effects, floormats, etc. LT-4s were not even around yet and only a handful of those made it into 97 f-bodies converted by SLP. Basically the LT-1 was the best you could get at the time. Unless you went though Calloway or the like and ordered a full blown tuner car.

No way it could have had an LT4 in a 1994... they didn't build that engine until 1996 for the Corvettes.

The F1 package was an dealer installed appearance package, sold by GM Performance Parts. It included a few "performance" items as well, but not much.

        From the 4th Gen FAQ:
        Q: What's included in the F1-Camaro/Firebird-GT package?

A: This is a package available through most dealerships. It offers a variety of performance and cosmetic parts from the GM Performance Group. The following is a list of the parts for the F1-Camaro (and for the Firebird-GT) and can be ordered for your Z28 or Formula through your dealership:

        Part No. Description
        -------------------------------------------------------------------------
12363906 32mm front stab. bar, bushings, link kit, and track bar
        12364002 17"x9"x50mm ZR-1 style wheels with P275/40ZR-17 Comp T/A tires
        12363998 16"x8"x66mm ZR-1 style wheels with P245/50ZR-16 Comp T/A tires
12363902 6-speed Hurst shifter (leather wrapped shift knob)
        12363925 cat-back performance exhaust (dual single-side outlet)
12363940 3 piece rear spoiler (primed)
12363915 4 piece ground effects package (primed)
12363978 cold air induction package (1993, for use with MAP)
12363979 cold air induction package (1994 and up, for use with MAF)
        12363910 F1 Specialty Vehicle Package - everything above (1993)
12363911 F1 Specialty Vehicle Package - everything above (1994 and up)
        123638xx coup floor mats (xx is 94-graphite, 95-gray, 96-beige, 97-neutral)
        123638xx conv floor mats (xx is 98-graphite, 99-gray, 00-beige, 01-neutral)
No performance parts included that the average person hasn't already put on his F-Body about 2 weeks after he bought it.

If its "rare" its because no one really wanted to buy it.

It is not rare at all. It is actually completely meaningless.

It was not factory ordered. It was dealer installed. *Anybody* could take *any Camaro* and make it a F1. You could even still do it today.
