battery cutoff switch

Hey guys ...

I am not that great with electrical stuff so hang in there on this question. I am building a roadracing car and HAVE a two pole battery cutoff switch. A fellow racer is using a four pole. He has one pole that is hot, one that is ground, one that is going to the alternator and one that feeds the fuse box.

My questions are:

Is it possible to use my two pole
one pole hot
second pole linking everything else?

Also, what is the best way to power the fuse box from the switch
- where do I bring the power into the fuse box and what guage wire?
