When i accelerate in first gear, my 95' 6 speed always grinds unless i take it really slow. It is also begining to do this in 2nd. All the other gears are fine. Also, in reverse, i have to hold the stick up into reverse really hard or it will slip out of gear and grind. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what these problems may be? Thanks!

I had that same problem, except mine never popped out of any gear. I had to take off really slow so it would grind. It ended up being the clutch. It was so worn, the clutch was down to the metal. So I had metal on metal, clutch-flywheel. It caused a grind. You could have a bad trans though too if you're popping out of gear. Also, it only grinded when I would take off, and a little grinding could be heard when I went slow in first gear.Originally posted by mikeyanni05When i accelerate in first gear, my 95' 6 speed always grinds unless i take it really slow. Hmm.....well my transmission (6 speed) makes a grinding sound whenever I get on the gas hard. But if I just take it easy its fine for the most part except for whenever there is more pressure on it. What do you guys think it is? And how hard is it to put a new clutch in these things. I have never replaced a clutch in anything before but I am pretty mechanicly inclined and have a repair manuel

replacing my clutch a couple years ago was a first-time experience for me. I consider myself a pretty good wrench and have a history of engine swaps, just never with a manual trans.Originally posted by 96CamaroHmm.....well my transmission (6 speed) makes a grinding sound whenever I get on the gas hard. I thought it was pretty easy. With a little research it was a breeze. I did note that my service manual sucked. The info from this forum was much more accurate.Tracy

If the clutch was bad wouldnt it slip and grind in all the gears?
Reverse is the only that pops out but i think that is a totaly different problem then the grinding in first.
