  • Zaino question

I had my black trans am painted about 3 weeks ago. From what ive read it is safe to start thinking about applying some zaino to the finish. This is my first time using it and i cant wait.I just received it today and am ready to start, my questions are since the paint is fresh and clean, (no wax, debris) on it would it be ok just to wash it with the zaino car wash and start polishing?I hate to put a strong detergent on that new paint if i dont have to.My other question is regarding the ZFX,i am planning on starting with the Z-5 till i feel its ready for the Z-2.The zfx helps cure the polish faster and ive read it makes a better shine. At Zainos website it says use ZFX one or two times a year, then further down the paragraph it says to use it as much as you want.I was planning on using it on every coat of polish i put on so it would speed things up and i could finish without the wait and start the next coat.If its ok to use it with every coat if someone would let me know id appreciate it.Thanks for this great site!

You can start Zainoing. I would clay the car to make sure any overspray or anything else is removed.

The minimum to use the ZFX is the first time and then twice a year or whenever you want to do back to back coats, BUT you can use it every time if you want and many of us do.

    Go for it!!!!

I'll try to answer your questions

If I was using Zaino on a car for the first time, regardless of how new the paint looks, I'd wash the car with 'Dawn' first. I'd follow that up with a claying, and then proceed with the polish.

As for ZFX, you add that to the polish in the 2 oz. bottles. It's required when youre applying Zaino for the first time, and it speeds up the drying time as well.

After washing with Dawn, claying, I'd apply 2 coats of Z5, followed by a final coat of Z2. I'd allow at least 1/2 hr. between coats, more if the temp. is low/humidity is high.

Finally make sure to use the proper towels for removal. Use either microfiber, or I use DF Towels

I hope that helps. If I missed a point, there are a couple of people on this site (wolfman/Kevin V 2002SS) who are the guru's

Thanks for all the help,i just put on the 8th coat last night followed up with z-8.I did 3coats of z-5,one coat of z-2/z-5 mixed and the rest straight z-2.I am very happy with the results. It looked great with the z-5, i couldnt wait to get the z-2 on.This was my first time and i have to say i am very impressed,i was a meguiars man all the way till now.The only problem i am having is at times like right at sunset when its not so bright out you can see the paint really well i am getting some dark spots/streaks if you look very very close where the z-8 tried to streak but you have to really stand on yor head to see, at first i think i was applying too heavy but now im using very little.Do you guys know any tricks/tips to get z-8 on and off better.Im gettin better but just thought id ask to make sure if there was a better way. Thanks again for all the help.
