  • Black T/A's undetectable to radar?

I remember reading a car magazine and being told about it almost 8 years ago about 4th gen black trans ams being undetectable to police radar. The way the nose is shaped and the color made the radar beams bounce off. Does anyone remember reading or hearing about that?

I have a Iroc Camero that is invisible to radar. It's made of special metal that bounces the radar beams off. It also has moon disc hubcaps and flame stickers. If I do ever get pulled over the cop is so intimidated by my temporary tattoo and marlboro cigarettes on the dash that they let me go. I guess they are just thankfull that I was nice enough to pull over for them because everyone knows my Iroc Camero could easily outrun them.

          Wanna buy it?

I haven't heard anything relating to color, but I have heard that 4th gen f-bodies have a fairly low radar signature because of their shape. They are not undetectable, as I'm sure plenty on this board could tell you, but I've heard they are harder to detect. The fact that the radiator is concealed (at least on TA's) and it's slanted backwards slightly helps a lot, so I've heard. I imagine the same could be said for corvettes.

What you are referring to is laser, not radar. A flat black car with no reflective surfaces is more difficult to get a lock on with laser. Typically an officer will aquire a target by bouncing the laser off a front plate, headlight or other reflective surface to get a speed reading. A flat black object with no reflective surface can only be clocked at a much closer distance.

So, would that also make the LT1 Camaros a little harder than the LS1 Camaros?

But no one on this board has a flat black car, because we all use Zaino!! Our cars are so highly reflective they could get a lock on us from the next state!

The plastic is invisible to radar. Radar goes through it like it's not there. I agree with Dave M about the radiator being slanted would cause the reflected beam to go up rather than back to the radar . That is the same theory used on current Navy ships.

Today on my way back from lunch I went through a zone where they had one of those portable trailers with the digital display that radars cars and displays their speed. It did not register me when I went by it. The road was flat and straight. Now if you are going down hill and the radar is up the next hill there may be enough tip in the car (radiator and support) to get the beam to bounce directly back to the radar.

all 4th gen firebirds are to certain guns ..., unless you run a front tag. the front tag is impregnated with a reflective paint to reflect the radar beams.

ask my wife mary..thats how she got busted for no front tag in the Hawk. 4 times! then i mounted it on the air damn....after reviewing the va law.

i talked with the state trooper, he said he got an "er" when he shot the car from the front...which told him no front tag...

lazers are a diff story though...they can see you.
