There's a hydraulic "master cylinder" on the firewall that is operated by the clutch pedal, a braided S/S line that connects the master cylinder to the "slave cylinder" on the side of bellhousing (LT1) or front of the tranny (LS1). The slave cylinder on the LT1 presses on the clutch fork, pushing it forward, and it "pulls back" the throwout bearing, releasing the clutch. On the LS1, the slave cylinder is concentric with the tranny input shaft, and pushes forward directly on the throwout bearing to release the clutch.

As noted in the post above, this system replaces the system of levers, pushrods and pivots that operates a mechanical linkage clutch.
